Why Use a Moving Day Planner?
Moving in NYC is uniquely complex. Between freight elevator reservations, Certificate of Insurance requirements, alternate side parking rules, and building-specific move-in procedures, there are dozens of NYC-specific tasks that can derail your move if overlooked.
Our Moving Day Planner breaks your entire move into manageable phases — from 8 weeks before move day all the way through post-move tasks. Each phase includes actionable items with NYC-specific tips so you know exactly what to do and when.
NYC Moving Tips You Won't Find Elsewhere
Certificate of Insurance (COI): Most NYC co-ops and condos require your moving company to provide a COI naming the building as an additional insured. Request this at least 2 weeks before your move — no COI often means no move-in.
Freight Elevator Reservations: NYC buildings typically limit moves to weekday business hours via the freight elevator. Popular dates book up fast — reserve 4–6 weeks ahead.
Temporary No Parking Permits: If your building doesn't have a loading dock, you'll need street space for the moving truck. Apply for temporary No Parking signs through your local precinct or NYC DOT at least a week in advance.
Tipping Movers: In NYC, the standard tip is $20–$40 per mover for a local move ($40–$60+ for long or difficult moves). Have cash ready on move day.
